I started working at Kaikorai Valley College in 2017. I’m a music educator with a strong background in performance. I also support the pastoral care of Year 9 students and enjoy mentoring both individual ākonga and school bands, helping them develop their confidence and creativity.
The strengths and values I bring to my role are:
· Adaptability and resilience
· Effective communication with ākonga, staff, and whānau
· Knowledge and experience in the music industry
· Confident and supportive leadership
· Commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive practice
I really value the sense of whanaungatanga and the respectful, inclusive community at Kaikorai Valley College. Everyone is recognised and supported, and all ākonga are given the chance to engage fully in school life—whether it’s in academics, sport, the arts, or environmental projects.
Every music class is different. Each group of students brings their own unique talents, skills, and perspectives, which makes teaching fresh and exciting each year. The music space is inclusive and welcoming, and seeing students express themselves—whether during class or on stage—is a real highlight.
In my role as a Dean, I also get to walk alongside students as they grow in confidence, resilience, and leadership. It’s incredibly rewarding to support them through both challenges and successes and to help create a culture where every learner feels seen, supported, and encouraged to thrive.
"We can’t always control what others say or do, but we can guide our own responses. By setting clear boundaries, standing strong in our values, and showing Manaakitanga, aroha, and mana, we help build a positive and respectful community."
Now that our house renovations are complete, I’ve been able to get back into regular training at the gym. I also enjoy playing in a few bands from time to time—music remains a big part of my life both in and out of the classroom.
I didn’t attend KVC myself, but many of my friends from my own school years did—and they still speak fondly of their time here.
