Janette is a seasoned educator with over 30 years of experience across a range of secondary schools in New Zealand. Her specialist subject area is Mathematics, with a particular passion for Algebra and Calculus. Janette started at Kaikorai Valley College in 2016.
Her work, both as a Mathematics teacher and Deputy Principal, is driven by the belief that "Success, no matter how small, builds success," and she finds immense reward in changing students’ mindsets, building their confidence, and supporting them to develop resilience against academic or personal challenges. Janette sets high expectations for herself and models this for her students, as she supports them in achieving their best academically and personally.
Janette enjoys travel and meeting people from other cultures, reflecting a philosophy that acknowledges complexity: "Nothing is ever black and white—it’s always in the shades of grey. As International Student Director, she appreciates the immense diversity in the world. She believes in the importance of students valuing diversity, respecting all cultures, and being equipped for life in a globalised world economy.
Janette enjoys being part of the KVC team because she views the school as more than just a school - it's a community where staff "go above and beyond" to support students and one another. She appreciates the "real sense of family and teamwork," which is united by a shared goal of doing what is best for the students.
