Cat joined Kaikorai Valley College in 2017 after a rich and varied career, including over 20 years working as a chef in New Zealand and Australia. She came to teaching later in life, studying at the University of Otago to postgraduate level with a major in the Phenomenology of Religion. Her path to education has been shaped by diverse life experiences, which bring depth and authenticity to her teaching practice. Cat believes every student can succeed and is committed to holding high expectations while also recognising that success looks different for everyone. Her approach is grounded in strong relationships, empathy, and the belief that mistakes are simply opportunities for growth.

At KVC, Cat thrives in an environment where staff are passionate, students are known and supported, and strong systems are in place to help learners thrive. She enjoys sharing her love of food with students, watching them gain confidence and pride through creating high-quality food products. In her pastoral role, she values being a steady presence—someone who listens, supports, and encourages students to navigate challenges and find their way forward. Outside the classroom, Cat enjoys gardening, tramping (with someone else carrying her pack), bold colour, and sharing her home with a lively collection of cats. A proud South Otago local, she didn’t attend KVC herself, but her roots in the region run deep.
