Secondary School Librarian – Part-Time Position
We are looking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Librarian to join our Kaikorai Valley College team (Years 7-13 ). This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional passionate about fostering a love of reading among young adults, supporting information literacy, and creating an engaging learning environment for students and staff.
Position Details:
Hours: 20 hours per week (term time only)
Start Date: Monday 20 April 2026 (negotiable)
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain the school library, including cataloguing, acquisitions, and circulation systems
Promote reading and literacy through programmes, displays, and events suited to Year 7-13 students
Support students in developing research, referencing, and critical thinking skills
Curate relevant, diverse, and curriculum-aligned resources, both physical and digital
Collaborate with teaching staff to support subject research and NCEA requirements (as required)
Provide a welcoming, inclusive, and well-organised library space conducive to study and independent learning
Skills and Experience:
Proven experience working as a Librarian, preferably in a secondary school or similar environment
Strong organisational and ICT skills, including familiarity with library management systems and digital resources
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with teenagers
A passion for literacy and student achievement
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative school team
Qualifications:
A recognised qualification in Library and Information Studies or relevant experience

Salary will be determined by experience and/or qualifications, and it is subject to the Support Staff in Schools’ Collective Agreement
