Our Values – KVC PRIDE

At Kaikorai Valley College, our culture is shaped by five core values that form the foundation of our PRIDE system — Whakahī o te Kura. These values underpin everything we do, both in and out of the classroom.

P – Participation
We encourage all students to get involved — academically, in sport, the arts, and cultural activities.

R – Respect
We promote respect for self, for others, and for our environment.

I – Inquiry
We foster curiosity and a love of learning in both teaching and learning.

D – Diversity
We embrace and celebrate difference — cultural, international, learning needs, and giftedness.

E – Environment
We care for our school, our stream, our community, and the world beyond.

These values are not just words — they are woven into daily life at KVC. They guide how we learn, how we treat others, and how we show up as part of a vibrant, inclusive school community.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

Kaikorai Valley College is proud to be part of the Ministry of Education’s Positive Behaviour for Learning initiative. PB4L helps us reflect on how we engage with students — in the classroom, on the sports field, and around the school grounds.

In 2015, we introduced PRIDE cards and the PRIDE Cup, celebrating and rewarding students who consistently demonstrate our school values. One of our most popular initiatives is the PRIDE draw, where students who earn PRIDE cards go into the draw to win exciting prizes — pulled by our custom-built machine, “Mana”.

These positive systems build a culture where great behaviour and effort are noticed, recognised, and celebrated.
