Education Outside the Classroom

Outdoor Education is a big part of life at KVC. Students will be involved in outdoor activities at each and every year level and in many different subject areas. Being part of Enviroschools we are committed to promoting and learning about sustainable practices.

We aim to use Education Outside the Classroom to:

  • Challenge and extend students
  • Improve self-confidence
  • Build trusting relationships
  • Team-work
  • Build and develop leadership and practical skills
  • Engage students

Junior Education Outside the Classroom includes:

  • Beach Education
  • Swimming
  • Rock Climbing
  • Kayaking
  • Sandboarding
  • Year 8 camp
  • Sports' Expo Day
  • Year 10 – 5 day camp at Tautuku in the Catlins
  • Year 7 and 8 Outdoor Education Day

Year 13 Outdoor Pursuits

This is a senior course that comprises of two practical sessions and two theory sessions per week. Students will gain experience and back ground knowledge in:

  • Risk Management
  • Kayaking
  • Abseiling
  • Rock Climbing
  • Skiing/Snowboarding
  • Tramping
  • Orienteering
  • Year 13 – 3 day Tramp
  • Year 13 – 2 day Ski Trip

Many students go on to careers within the Outdoors and Tourism Industries.
